Samson App Leverages AI to Predict Used Rope Strength

Samson announces an important update to their ICARIA® line management software, purpose-built for OCIMF MEG4 compliance. Delivered through the Samson App, this new solution gives mooring operators a single digital framework for inspecting, tracking, and retiring all mooring line types — synthetic and wire — regardless of manufacturer.
At the heart of the release is a new residual strength estimation tool. Using a line inspection submitted via the Samson App, the platform delivers an in situ, non-destructive estimate of the remaining strength of common Samson 12-strand mainlines. It produces data-driven maintenance and retirement recommendations without the need to crop or destructively test lines. By assessing combined damage rather than tracking individual defects in isolation, users gain a more accurate and informative view of the true remaining strength than conventional methods based on hours, operations, or line tension.
The App’s advanced inspection tools also include enhanced INSIGHT AI abrasion reporting. INSIGHT’s built-in AI automatically rates external and internal abrasion — the two most common forms of synthetic mooring line damage — giving crews a robust, consistent estimation of damage severity alongside non-destructive health estimations and clearly recommended actions.
Another new feature of the Samson App is a new guided inspection experience for shipsets. This guides inspectors from line to line and winch to winch until a full vessel inspection is complete, allowing them to skip unneeded lines and equipment with ease. Automated inspection setup reduces the burden on crews. Capturing rotations, end-for-ends, repairs, usage logs, and equipment checks during a single inspection saves significant time while generating a consistent reporting framework across all MEG4 inspection types—detailed, routine, and damage.
