We’ve weathered wars, hurricanes, floods and more in our 140 years together. We’ll get through this pandemic as well.

Part of the federal and state recommendations related to COVID-19 includes continuity of functions critical to public health/safety, infrastructure and transportation, as well as economic and national security. Our products are integral to our customers’ ongoing operations, which directly support infrastructure, supply chain, and the national security of many countries. Therefore, we are taking steps to keep our manufacturing facilities operating, and will continue to strictly follow safety precautions so that we, and our customers, can carry on in support of these critical functions.

What measures is Samson taking to protect employees, products, and customers?
  • We are continuing to take proactive measures to maintain the cleanliness of our facilities and the health of our employees.
  • We have implemented all recommended safety protocols for hygiene, distancing, and self-care. 
  • We have added additional sources for hand sanitizer and disinfectant on all Samson properties. 
  • We have closed our buildings to all visitors and put a temporary end to all business travel for our employees. 
  • We have modified the manufacturing resource strategy to further prevent contact between associates


How long does COVID-19 last on products and packaging? Do I need to be worried about the product I receive from Samson?

The World Health Organization advises that the likelihood of an infected person contaminating commercial goods is low and the risk of catching the virus that causes COVID-19 from a package that has been moved, traveled, and exposed to different conditions and temperature is also low. 

The World Health Organization has indicated that it is not certain how long the virus that causes COVID-19 survives on surfaces, but it seems to behave like other coronaviruses. Studies suggest that coronaviruses (including preliminary information on the COVID-19 virus) may persist on surfaces for a few hours or up to several days. This may vary under different conditions (e.g. type of surface, temperature, or humidity of the environment).

What are Samson’s recommendations for washing ropes?

Soap can be effective in breaking down the chemistry of viral envelopes and isolating virus cells, allowing them to be washed away.  In cases of known or suspected contamination, ropes may be disinfected with isopropyl or ethyl alcohol immersion. The CDC lists ethyl and isopropyl alcohol as being fully active as a virucidal agent for viruses such as the SARS-CoV-2, responsible for the COVID-19 disease.

  • Submerge rope in mild soap or detergent in room-temperature water (if disinfecting, submerge in 70% Ethyl or Isopropyl alcohol solution for 2 minutes*).
  • Apply gentle agitation by hand across the entire length of the rope to ensure full penetration of the soap or solution within the structure.
  • Thoroughly rinse with clean water to remove the cleaning solution and any released material.
  • Ropes should be left to dry at ambient temperatures, preferably in a location with good airflow and out of direct sunlight, for a period of at least 24 hours or until no water can be wrung out under pressure applied by hand.

    *The use of Ethyl or Isopropyl alcohol solution may have a mild impact on fiber tenacity. The number of applications to the same rope should be limited – any damage that can occur is worsened by increasing concentration, temperature, and exposure time.
